National Write Your Congressman Congratulates Winners of the Congressional Management Foundation’s Democracy Awards
DALLAS – October 6, 2020 – National Write Your Congressman (NWYC), an organization that gives small businesses a voice in American government, congratulates the winners of the 2020 Congressional Management Foundation’s (CMF) Democracy Awards, a distinctive honors program that recognizes non-legislative achievement and performance in congressional offices and by Members of Congress.
Randy Ford, President and COO of National Write Your Congressman and a sponsor of the Democracy Awards, presented the “Innovation and Modernization” award to U.S. Congressman Mark Takano of California's 41st District and U.S. Congresswoman Kay Granger of Texas’ 12th District.
The “Innovation and Modernization” category recognizes offices employing originality or creativity in their constituent interactions, communications, or office operations, as well as intentional efforts to modernize the institution of Congress.
“We celebrate the Congressional offices of Congresswoman Granger and Congressman Takano who are breaking ground in the way they communicate with their constituents – always providing new ways to hear their stories and work on their behalf,” said Ford.
The Democracy Awards are presented to Congressional offices, allowing staff to share in the credit for the achievement and recognizing the reality that a degree of success for Members of Congress is due to the employees they hire and manage. NWYC has been a sponsor of the Democracy Awards since its inception in 2018.
“Our business-owner members are continually communicating with their leaders in Washington to share their opinions on policies that will help their families, community and business,” said Ford. “We are grateful to the Congressional Management Foundation for creating these unique awards to recognize Members of Congress who provide excellent services to their constituents.”
All finalists were recognized at a virtual ceremony Tuesday, October 6, where CMF announced Democracy Awards winners in four categories: Constituent Service; "Life in Congress" Workplace Environment; Transparency and Accountability; and Innovation and Modernization.
The Founding Partner for the Democracy Awards is the Bridge Alliance, which provided a generous grant to launch the program. Bridge Alliance is a diverse coalition of more than 100 organizations committed to revitalizing democratic practice in America.
